Strengthening laws against hate speech

Fitzroy Legal Service is pleased to have made a submission to Stage 1 of the Victorian Government’s consultation on Strengthening Victoria’s laws against hate speech and hate conduct, which is looking into strengthening Victoria’s anti-vilification laws.

Residential Tenancies Act leaves co-tenants vulnerable

A thorough review of the Residential Tenancies Act is required to address common issues facing co-tenants in Victoria. While the Tenancy Act is regularly amended, it still fails to offer sufficient provisions for when there is a relationship breakdown within a co-tenancy. 

Meet community lawyer, Gatwech Wal

Following a career practicing family law and criminal justice with the Victoria Police, Gatwach Wal joined FLS in June as a Community Lawyer committed to supporting at risk community members through family violence and family law matters. Gatwech brings with him extensive experience across community volunteering, surviving war and conflict and professional qualifications that drives his sense of justice today.
