Fitzroy Legal Service calls on governments to end the funding crisis

Fitzroy Legal Service stands with community law colleagues from across the country in calling on our governments to end the funding crisis and save community legal centres.

Everyone in our community deserves access to essential legal support to ensure fair treatment, stay safe and have their rights upheld. In Australia, this access is currently at risk.

Funding shortages and overwhelming demand are forcing our sector to turn away over 1,000 people every day who need our help. This crisis will only worsen until we secure a guarantee of ongoing funding for the sector.

We call on our governments to commit to:

  • $35 million this year to address the workforce crisis.
  • At least $270 million per year for community legal centres from 1 July 2025, committed by December 2024.
  • $95 million for frontline domestic and family violence work.
