The Victorian Government is planning to demolish all 44 public housing towers. The Parliamentary Inquiry found there is not enough evidence to justify this decision.

Its findings show what residents have been telling us. They were not informed, consulted, or treated with dignity during the relocation process.

“The public housing towers are more than ‘buildings.’ They are home to thousands of people with deep cultural, family, and community ties.”

“The Inquiry’s findings on inadequate consultation and coercive relocation practices confirm what we’ve been seeing on the ground. Being uprooted from your community causes profound harm.” – Hamish McLachlan, CEO of Fitzroy Legal Service

Fitzroy Legal Service welcomes these findings and stands with tower residents calling for:

  • Clear and accessible information on their options – no coercion, no pressure
  • No demolition due to lack of credible evidence
  • An enforceable right to return
  • No loss of public housing
