In solidarity with First Nations people, Fitzroy Legal Service’s doors will remain open this Invasion Day, 26 January.

26 January marks a devastating day in history for First Nations people – the day when Britain began its illegal and violent colonisation of so-called New South Wales.

This act, carried out by force and without consent, represented the start of a prolonged attempt at the genocide of First Nations people, as well as the invasion, dispossession, and ongoing occupation of Country.

At Fitzroy Legal Service, we recognize the gravity of this day.

It is not a day for celebration, but a day for mourning and protest. It’s a day to reflect on the continued struggles and resilience of First Nations people, and to support them in their ongoing fight for justice and self-determination.

Fitzroy Legal Service Interim CEO, Hamish McLachlan said that to stand in solidarity, our doors will remain open on 26 January.

“Many of our staff are electing to work, and many of our services including our Night Service will be operating as usual,” McLachlan said.

Fitzroy Legal Service invite our community to join us in acknowledging the true significance of this day and advocating for treaty, truth and justice for First Nations people. 🖤💛❤️
