A message from the CEO – May 2025

It has been another extremely busy period for Fitzroy Legal Service and the clients and community members we serve, and it is my pleasure to share with you some significant news from the organisation along with some of our stellar work so far in 2025.

First, we are excited to share that, after an open, thorough and highly competitive recruitment process, two fantastic new Board members, Prashanti Manchikanti and Lisa Ward, have been appointed to the FLS Board. We are delighted Prashanti and Lisa have joined us and are grateful for their expertise and commitment to FLS and its mission. In addition to this, long-time Board member Jeremy Levine has shared that he plans to step down from his role in the middle of the year. We are incredibly grateful for Jeremy’s work on the Board across many years and look forward to the opportunity to thank him more fully closer to the time of his departure. Finally, we are very pleased to have identified an excellent candidate to fill the vacancy that will be created by Jeremy’s departure, FLS life-member, Michael Kingston. Michael has been attending Board meetings as an observer, before his formal appointment to the Board in the middle of the year. You can read more about each of these wonderful contributors below.

This edition of FLS eNews also contains updates from across our organisation, including on our ongoing support for community members affected by the public housing towers redevelopment, a new podcast series focusing on lived experience in the criminal justice system, and a new decision protecting family violence survivors during family law proceedings.

It has been a successful start to 2025 as we continue to fight for a fairer legal system and to provide access to justice to the most marginalised members of our communities.

Any assistance you can provide makes a difference and helps us facilitate access to justice.
